Yoi House
Receive an ancestral experience in our Maloka (ceremonial house) where you will have the opportunity to receive talks from our grandparents, as well as participate in our workshops and rituals.
Ancestral Ceremony:
Jungle Path
Where: Yoi House
Who leads: Wise grandparent – translator if needed
Duration: 30 to 45 minutes
Materials: Coca leaves, fire, achiote, mambe, ambil, fire, cold water jar, napkins, totumos to serve water.
Step # 1: The ceremony begins by placing the guests seated in front of the place established for the knowledgeable grandparent, who must be dressed in traditional costumes, the host 1 or the translator will be in charge of introducing the grandparent with special emphasis on his/her name, ethnicity and the work he/she does.
Step # 2: The grandparent will initially talk for about 15 minutes, on the topics of the indigenous culture, their cosmovision and how they perceive the situation of the global warming.
Step # 3: Time to answer guest questions.
Step # 4: The grandparent will perform a ritual to ask permission to the jungle and the ancestors to be protected during the entire ancient trip. The ritual consists of passing a container where there are coca leaves, each participant will take the ones he/she wishes, the idea is that each one of the guests thinks of a situation that he/she wants to leave to mother earth, then he/she will pass to the front and will throw the coca leaves into the fire one by one, delivering his/her petition or wish.
Step # 5: The grandparent says goodbye thanking everyone and wishing everyone an amazing trip through the Amazon.
Workshop on Mambe and Ambil elaboration
Where: Yoi House
Who: Grandparents – translator if needed
Duration: 120 minutes
Materials: Natural materials for the elaboration of the mambe and the ambil, fire, pitcher with cold water, napkins, totumos to serve the water.
Step # 1: The grandfather makes a short presentation (5 to 10 minutes) about the importance of the mambe and the ambil in the Huitoto culture.
Step #2: The grandfather interactively shows the whole process of making the mambe and the ambil (90 minutes).
Step #3: Throughout the workshop, the grandfather will offer the guests the opportunity to taste the ambil and the mambe, and will close the workshop by thanking the mother forest for the opportunity to share the knowledge and thanking the guests for their interest in learning more about the culture.
RULES OF CONDUCT
Please note the following guidelines:
– Do not bring food or drinks (only water).
– You must enter without shoes (leave them in the locker).
– Do not smoke, do not drink alcoholic beverages or consume hallucinogenic substances.
– Do not touch the elements inside the Yoi (Maloka) house.
– Do not sit on the Grandfather’s chair.
